HEART EYES

Do you love someone? Or something? Do you miss anyone? Do you want candy? Food from your hometown? Free wine? This month, Kannski celebrates the sincere, indefinable, cliche of love. We panic in the capitalist nightmare of the holiday aisle in the grocery store. We call our mom’s at 2 am because in her country, she is just getting off of work. We help our friends move for the eighteenth time. We browse our exe’s facebook. We frantically message our best friend to see what type of flowers are appropriate for a first valentines day with a partner, or a second, or a third. Opening on February 14th, Heart Eyes is a dual exhibition of the works of Carlos Valdez-Kehoe and the artist duo Ráðhildur & Hekla. Spanning mediums from performance to mural to food, the artists focus on the interplay between the care that weaves through communities and the love linking individuals. Ráðhildur and Hekla’s Festival of Love is a series of workshops and performances hosted by the duo themselves and by those they love and have loved. Earnest and trite in equal measures, the world that the pair build is filled with love letters, cards, candy hearts, and tears. In contrast, Valdes-Kehoe’s work pulls us entirely out of the world of romance and into the complexity of love among experiences of immigration. Two murals made of dozens of paper prints slowly fall off the walls; ephemeral works reflecting on missing–both the missing of holidays and loved-ones integral to many immigrants' lives, and the millions of missing and deported migrants that populate the news. Alongside these pieces, Valdez-Kehoe offers comfort in the universal language of food, cooking a favorite meal from home for audience members. So, join us for food, candy, heartbreak, first dates, last dates, handholding, laughing, and tears at Lindargata’s hottest artist-run-space.
